1/20 - New vocab work, quiz

It was my intention to give a quiz tomorrow and spend the day doing new vocabulary. However, due to poor behavior and inattention during the review, I gave the quiz today. I will grade them and put them in the gradebook this evening.

1. Check/go over workbook page 53
2. vocab practice. Less than half the students brought their flashcards, making work much more difficult. We worked with the rest of the vocabulary list, doing flashcard practice and playing bingo.
3. Quiz due to poor behavior.

1/18 - Sub Day

Sorry I wasn't here today, my daughter was sick and I had to stay home with her.

The plan from today:
Spanish 1 (per 6) will be working in their workbooks. Tell them the quiz is postponed until tomorrow. Many will need to get the workbooks from their lockers, so tell them as they walk in to go get them. Tell them to work first on the FLIPSIDE (they know what that means) (it’s the side of the workbook with a bar code on it). Do pages 93-94 and 95-96. Then in the regular side, they should do page 53 and 54. They should be able to finish by the end of the hour. I will check this tomorrow!!

Remember, vocab quiz tomorrow Spanish to English on fruits, vegetables, breads, drinks, and desserts.

lunes, 17 de enero de 2011

La tarea: WB 49-50

VOCAB QUIZ TUESDAY!!

jueves, 13 de enero de 2011

1/13 - Vocabulario

1. Check for complete set of flashcards with Spanish on one side and pictures on the other. It seems many people did NOT use their time wisely during the oral exams, as very few had what they needed. Partial credit can be earned for showing me tomorrow.
2. Sort vocab. We sorted out the 13 vegetable words and 12 fruit words. We started working with only those vocab words and we practiced a few different ways.
3. Explain "Me gusta" and "Me gustan". Me gusta is used for liking singular items (ie. salad, lunch, pizza), Me gustan is used for plural items (sandwiches, strawberries). Students had to tell me something they like, they don't like, and that they love (Me encanta, Me encantan).
4. Text p. 135? Oral activity of saying what kids like and don't like.

La tarea: Make sure you have a full set of vocab flash cards for food items!!!!!

miércoles, 12 de enero de 2011

1/11 - 1/12 - Oral presentations

Tuesday:
1. Check that students brought flash cards.
2. Oral exams/work on making flashcards for underlined words on vocab list, Spanish on one side, picture on the other.

La tarea: translate underlined words from vocab list.

Wednesday:
1. Go over underlined words
2. Oral exams/work on flashcards.

La tarea: bring in completed flash cards tomorrow!

lunes, 10 de enero de 2011

1/10 - Finish packet, oral exams, make blank flashcards

1. Finish going over packet. Keep the packet, because you will be seeing the questions and answers from the back page again!!!

2. Oral exams - Volunteers only. About 10 students volunteered. I decided to increase the time frame for extra credit to 90 seconds (up from a minute) and increase the total time to 3 minutes. I eliminated the Q&A so the project went down in value.

2. While orals were going on, students were cutting up paper to make at least 72 blank flashcards. Students MUST bring these blanks to class tomorrow, it will count as a homework assignment. If you choose to use index cards, you need to cut them in half, they will be too big if you use whole ones.

La tarea: finish making your flash cards. ALL STUDENTS MUST be ready to do the oral tomorrow. I will take volunteers and then start calling people.

1. Practice setting the table.
2. Oral exam for next week. Handout at the bottom of this post.
3. Discuss "Three Kings Day"
4. Next section on review packet.

La tarea: Study for vocab quiz tomorrow. Bonus for readers of the blog: There will be an extra credit question using the prepositions!!

Presentación oral – Poner la mesa (30 points) (1/10-1/12)

Each student will have to set the table using all 13 items on the vocabulary list. As you place each item, you must state where you are putting it in comparison with another table item using a preposition. You must use all 13 table items, and at least 7 different prepositions. Each sentence will start with “Pongo” = “I put”. Remember: de+el=del, but de+la stays de la. You must finish in 90 seconds or you will not receive credit for the items you did not get to. !!Extra credit: finish in under 1 minute for 3 points of CE!!
Ejemplo: Yo pongo el mantel en la mesa. Yo pongo el plato encima del mantel.

After setting the table, I will ask 2 questions regarding the location of items on your table. You will have to answer with a correct, complete sentence using a preposition. You will have no more than 30 seconds to answer each question.
Ejemplo: ¿Dónde está el mantel? El mantel está debajo del plato.

Grading rubric (30 points):
5 points – on time
13 points - All 13 items correctly identified while placing
7 points – 7 prepositions used correctly
5 points – correctly answer 2 questions by naming the item, using the correct form of estar, using a correct preposition, and using an appropriate second item for the locational relationship (see example).

Presentations will be in class on Monday 1/10-Weds. 10/12. Students may come to the classroom on Monday during 5th or 7th hour to present in private with me (come after the first 10 minutes), or find me in my office during 4th hour.

1/6 - Welcome back! Repaso, poner la mesa

Hola estudiantes y padres!

Before starting our next chapter, we are doing some review of verb conjugation, sentence structure, and answering questions. Then we will begin chapter 3, talking about food.

This week, we are doing a mini unit on setting the table, which also helps review prepositions. Each student gets a set of table items and in Spanish, I tell them how to set them up.

On Friday, there will be a vocab quiz, matching, covering all the vocab below. Next week, students will set the table for me for an oral presentation grade. More details on this will be posted on Thursday or Friday.
